What You’ll Learn

Through your medication assistance course, you will acquire vital knowledge from the self paced online learning. During the practical medication administration training you will learn crucial real-world skills to safely administer medication followed by a competency assessment to complete your course.
Among the new range of skills, you will have acquired at the completion of your course, you will be able to:
Understand your responsibilities, including regulations and any organisational guidelines behind safely administering medication to clients.

  • Prepare the administration of medication by complying with infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Understand various medication terminologies, shorthand terms, abbreviations, acronyms, and jargon.
  • Be conscious of the different types of medications and the different handling and administration techniques behind each.
  • Instruct and support clients in self-administering medication.
  • Complete medication documentation and records including but not limited to a medication log.
  • Safely use medication facilities and a variety of medication equipment.
  • Manage medication schedules to ensure correct dosages are taken at correct times, by the correct person, and in the correct manner
  • Comply with Workplace health and safety.
  • Safely and correctly store medications when not in use and replenish stock when needed
  • Establish a medication agreement with clients.
  • Handle medication contingencies such as out of date medication or adverse patient reactions by appropriately recording, reporting, and responding to the event.
  • Understand your clients’ specific medication needs and recognise any behavioural or physical changes which could impact how their medication affects them.
  • Carry out your duties with confidence, care, and compassion.
  • Understand the rights of medication administration
  • Hygienically dispose of medication waste, and clean and store medication equipment.

Course Delivery

The medication administration course is delivered through a blend of theory and practice conducted across self-paced online learning followed by three – four hours of in-person practical training.
Entry Requirements
There are no prior academic requirements necessary to attend a medication administration course. At the minimum, attendees must possess basic literacy and numeracy skills, and the physical capability to interact with clients and provide them with medication, operate medication equipment and to store said equipment correctly after use. Attendees will also require a device with an internet connection to complete the at-home eLearning and theoretical portions of their training.

When you successfully complete our medication administration training you will receive same day certification. While you can expect to receive the actual, physical certificate within a 24-hour period, you’ll be immediately qualified to utilise what you’ve learned.
