Description

This qualification reflects pre-hospital and out-of-hospital workers who provide patient assessment, healthcare, and transport services. These workers possess clinical skills and theoretical knowledge and provide clinical assessment and pre-hospital and out-of-hospital interventions to patients in an emergency, including advanced life-support skills.

This qualification applies to various health care, event medical and patient transport system roles.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older at the time of course commencement.
  • Some prospective students may be asked to undertake an LLN assessment or enrolment interview before acceptance.
  • Must have completed Australian Year 12 or equivalent schooling or a Certificate IV or higher qualification with an Australian institution.
  • Must have the ability to undertake a work placement in a clinical setting.
  • Must have previously completed Cert IV in order to convert to the Diploma.

Must demonstrate English level of IELTS 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent, such as:
  • IBT 60
    PTE Academic 50
    CAE 169
    OET Pass
    General English Advanced
    MOI Certificate
    Certificate IV or higher qualification with an Australian institution.

Intakes

ALL EMS Education & Training courses are available 24/7, with commencement available anytime.

Assessments

Assessments may include written questions, demonstration of tasks/techniques, group activities, in-class activities, role play, presentation, work-based projects, research projects, and workplace observations/evidence.

Assessments and quizzes are conducted throughout the lessons, and a student must complete each lesson before moving on to the next lesson. There are a series of skills drills for some chapters and exercises within the chapter sections.

  • Minimum Score of 90% for each lesson to pass it.
  • The Lesson will be locked for 3 minutes after Failing before you can re-attempt the lesson.
  • If you fail to pass a Lesson 3 times, you get the whole course progress wiped, and you must start from the beginning!
  • Students can review their lessons even after completion (but their grades are not affected).

 

This qualification requires that the learner complete at least 160 hours of work placement under clinical supervision.

Award

Students must complete all units in this course to receive a HLT51020 Diploma of Emergency Health Care certificate.

Learners who partially complete the qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment for their deemed competent units.

Students must complete two skills workbooks over 160 hours of Clinical Placement.

After completing the HLT41120 – HLT51020. Conversion from Cert IV to Diploma, students may progress to higher education programs in the paramedicine field at the university level.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING RPL / CREDIT TRANSFER

EMS Education & Training recognises qualifications issued by other RTOs. EMS Education & Training will accept and mutually recognise the qualifications and Statements of Attainment awarded by any other registered training organisation unless precluded by licensing requirements.

We can also grant you a Credit Transfer for subjects or units you have completed where equivalence can be established between the unit in your course and the subject or unit you have completed.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where skills and knowledge you have gained through work and life experience and other unrecognised training can be formally recognised.

Contact EMS Education & Training before entry to the course, EMS Education & Training will discuss the process and options for RPL. Suitability is often determined by how much experience you have in a certain area, your work history and previous training.

UNIQUE STUDENT IDENTIFIER (USI) REQUIREMENT

A USI is needed for all students studying with EMS Education & Training. From 1 January 2015, the students must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) for undertaking Nationally Recognised Training delivered by a Registered Training Organisation.

The USI is available online and at no cost to the student. This USI will stay with the student for life and be recorded with any nationally recognised VET course completed. Please see the official USI website https://www.usi.gov.au.

Before enrolment, the student must create a USI (Unique Student Identifier).

Textbooks and Course Materials

The HLT51020 Diploma of Emergency Health Care requires completing the following 17 Units (including nine core and eight electives) – which equals 11 Sections of the mapped study materials.

EMSET supplies through the course library a copy of the textbook, the text for each chapter (which includes skills and exercises to be completed), Chapter Lectures, and Chapter PowerPoints.

These support the EMS M3X course delivery system for the Diploma.
